Movie Review: Secretariat

Basic Premise:
Penny Tweedy has inherited a failing horse breeding ranch that she is determined to make grand once more. With the help of her family, friends, colleagues, and a very special horse, she will make her dream come true.

Is there anyone out there who does not know who Secretariat is? Even if you don’t know horse racing, I’m sure you’ve heard the name at least once. He is a legendary horse and I think this movie did him justice.

It was an entertaining ride. Penny Tweedy is the focus of the story with “Secretariat” as the co-star. This movie is more about the determination of a woman to see out a dream she thought she had abandoned, rather than a horse that everyone thought was a longshot.

The acting draws you in and makes you care. Even though you know the outcome, it’s still nerve wracking when the final race happens.

It’s funny that the hubby and I saw this movie on a Sunday. The movie opens with a Bible reference and ends with a gospel hymn. The perfect Sunday movie.

I had a few issues with the storytelling. There were points where the writers didn’t follow through. They introduced an issue, made a big deal out of it, but then left the viewer to assume everything worked out for the best rather than showing the problem resolved.

Other than that, this movie was much better than I thought. I loved watching the horses run. It is definitely a Disney family film.

Megamind – The hubby and I got AMC gift cards from an AMC promotion that will pay for our viewing of this movie in a few weekends.

Country Strong – The more I see this preview, the more I know I’ll be waiting for this to come on network television. And that’s going to be a while.

Unstoppable – I have to research this incident because I have a lot of questions based on what I’ve seen in the preview. I still want to see it just because I’m fond of the actors involved.

Harry Potter and the Deathly Hollows Part 1 – I like what I’m seeing in the previews. This is going to be a wild ride.

African Cats – I haven’t bothered to watch any of the other Disney Nature films, but I want to see this one. I have a soft spot for cats. I also absolutely love cheetahs.

Tangled – I’m starting to look forward to this. Today was a new preview that shed a little more light on the plot, which looks somewhat interesting. Though I’m not kidding anyone. It’s a Disney “romance”. I was going whether I wanted to or not. 😛
